Warangal: Nikhita Yadav is barely 16 years old and has just completed Intermediate first year. Before her academic session commences next month, she has a task at hand – 2,000-kilometer marathon covering 31 districts campaigning for Swachh Telangana. This, she believe a prelude to her life ambition of climbing the Mt Everest.
Braving the scorching summer, this shy teenager of Marredpally in Secunderabad, who strongly believes that girls can do anything a boy can do, set out on a mission from Gun Park on April 27 to raise awareness about the significance of cleanliness and hygiene for a healthy life.
Nikhita, who entered Mulug in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Wednesday, so far touched Medak, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Warangal Urban and Rural districts in her marathon run completing nearly 800 kms at an average of nearly 60 kms a day.
Nikhita loves adventure sports and has participated in international-level waterfall rappelling at Katika waterfalls in Araku valley of Visakhapatnam, Gayatri waterfalls in Adilabad district etc. She also loves rope trekking. Interestingly, this is her first marathon run.
Speaking to The Hans India, she said: “My plan is to complete 2,000 kms before June 2, Telangana Formation Day, to take part in the 3rd anniversary celebration in Hyderabad. I am more than happy if my marathon run effort creates a sense of self-confidence among the women that they can do anything what men can do.”
This, my effort is not only to create awareness about Swachh Telangana but also to popularise Telangana culture and traditions, she said.
Further, Nikhita, the eldest daughter of Kora Ramesh and Deepa, said that her ambition is to climb Mt Everest. She had developed blisters on her feet and camping in Mulug along with her four-member entourage.
