Food and activity do not stop for anyone, no matter where you are. The first step is to make a healthy lifestyle- friendly schedule for yourself in your routine.
Staying on track can seem so daunting, especially when on a holiday; here are a few habits that could avoid the holiday pile-on
Food and activity do not stop for anyone, no matter where you are. The first step is to make a healthy lifestyle- friendly schedule for yourself in your routine.
This includes your timely meals and one hour of self time in the form of an activity. It could be a sport, yoga, meditation or a simple workout.
This helps one create a kind of discipline in your routine making it easy to follow even in your travel.
Simply continue to maintain your number of meals with easy on the go snacks such as kurmura, diet khakra, roasted chana, low fat crackers, fruits, raisins, skinny yoghurts, etc, in addition to your healthy main meals on your holiday and we are sorted.
Your regular eating pattern not only keeps you satisfied preventing over indulging but also keeps you active and charged up avoiding the holiday pile up.
Pack smart for your holiday
Pack your workout gear for sure; we can’t leave without our Keds.
Carry your snacks on the go especially if you are aware of your schedule at your destination.
Nothing gives us a reason to miss our vitamins, make sure your supplements have been added to your checklist. Check your weight before you leave, it helps us subconsciously keep a tab on our cheat meals and maintain flatter abs to flaunt in our holiday wear.
Eat smart on a vacation
Eating on a vacation is part of the fun-time we look forward to. The idea is not to overdo anything but maintain the balance of tasting the exotic local foods and at the same time not losing out on our waistline. Taste everything you find tempting, don’t deprive your taste buds but fill your stomach with the healthier options first. For example, a plate of grilled chicken and salad can be your meal before we indulge into the so tempting cheesy lasagna or crème brulee. This is a smart way to eat to taste and not to stuff yourself with higher calorie options.
Healthy options on a vacation include local fruits, plenty of grilled meats or vegetables, fresh coconut water, fruit juices, steamed corn, low fat sandwiches, egg whites, low fat yoghurts, multigrain breads, tandoori roti, rice with clear soups, feta salads and plenty of water. Steer clear from the buttery vegetable preparations or oily lentils which cause acidity and bloating, you would rather choose an oil free carb which is far more filling and less damaging.
Plan active holidays
Working out on a vacation becomes even more essential to make sure you burn the excess calories off which you may have binged into with the outside food. Never forget to pack your sports gear on your getaways. There are numerous ways to keep yourself fit even without a gym besides being physically active through the day. A simple brisk walk around your hotel, a run on the beach , a quick 30 minute swim , climbing up and down the stairs, a workout video in your room, skipping , spot jogging etc are some of the activities we can do to keep ourselves fit anywhere on the go.
Manage your temptations wisely
Oil, sugar and high sodium foods are bigger culprits than a light drink here and there. Avoid too many sauces, pickles, salty beverages and accompaniments, sugary drinks, fried and greasy foods etc.
Some of the smart tricks include-
- Eating a very healthy and fulfilling breakfast which is mostly available at your hotel buffet or a ala carte.
- Choose your favorite indulgence during lunch instead of dinner as you tend to burn it off with your activity during the day.
- Dinners may include a drink, hence ensure a light meal preferably grilled or steamed at night. Salad, grilled fish, clear soup or sautee veggies are a great option to balance out on your alcohol beverages.
- Water intake can play a very important role during your fiesta time as it keeps you from overeating, fulfils your hydration requirements and keeps you fuller.
- Fresh Fruits are a great way to bridge your gaps and meet your electrolyte requirements.
- The idea is to maintain a balance in your calorie intake throughout the day. Eating sensibly through the day and then bingeing at night is most likely on vacations; hence you’d rather indulge wisely rather than follow the extreme. Have a super fun, healthy and a fabulously fit vacation.
