Warangal: The Consumers Council, Warangal president S Chakrapani has demanded the State and Central governments to establish a Gems and Jewellery Park in Warangal.

He said because of the corporate jewellery stores, which have been importing the gold ornaments made in other states, the goldsmiths in Warangal district were losing employment avenues. Hence the government should set up the park in the city to ensure employment to local goldsmiths.

Chakrapani addressed a gathering at the inaugural ceremony of training classes for goldsmiths organised under the aegis of Gem and Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) and National Skill Development Corporation under PM Krishi Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in Warangal on Wednesday.

If the Gems and Jewellery Park is established in Warangal, it could ensure employment to about 2,000 artisans. It could help the managements of jewellery companies and wholesale traders to get the jewellery designed and manufactured here, Chakrapani noted.

The Warangal Swarnakara Sangham president Chittimalla Ramesh informed that there are nearly 10, 000 goldsmiths in the city. And majority of them are undergoing skill development training under PMKVY in a phased manner. In order to ensure livelihood to those underwent training, the State and Central governments should offer bank loans towards their livelihood and establish Gems and Jewellery Park, he suggested.

The GJSCI’s trainer of trainers (ToT) and Goldsmith Academy Telangana CEO Naroju Vishweshwara Chary, who presided over the inaugural session, stated that those underwent training under PMKVY would get gainful employment.

He informed that the goldsmiths in the district could form into a group of 50 members to attend the training classes being run at Goldsmiths Training Centre at Warangal Central Complex. Every batch would be given three days advanced training in jewellery design and making.

The training coordinators Guru Anand, U Venkateshwarlu, T Santhosh and A Ranjith Kumar were present.
