Khammam: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) district president B J Climont has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Narendra Modi was towards privatisation of banks. It may be recalled that the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has given a nationwide strike call on August 22, to protest against the reforms in the banking sector.
About 10 lakh bank employees working in 1,32,000 branches across the country would be on strike on August 22. Extending the support to the strike, Climont said with the hard work of bank employees, many banks of government sector across the country were running with profits.
“However, the government, by encouraging corporates and private business personnel not to repay the loans, is trying to privatise the banks intentionally,” he alleged. Stating that bank employees had to put up with extra work post demonetisation, the AITUC leader demanded the government to withdraw the decision of privatisation of banks of government sector along with taking necessary steps for collecting money from loan defaulters.
Similarly, district secretary of the Centre of India Trade Unions (CITU) Kalyanam Venkateshwar Rao said that the representatives of CITU would take part in the bankers’ strike. In a meeting held under the leadership of K Narasimha Rao here at Manchikanti Bhavan, Venkateshwarlu alleged that the Centre was trying to dissolve the banking sector showing the reason of bad loans.
“Instead of taking steps for recovery of loans, the government is trying to privatise the government banks,” he criticised, urging the working sections and others to support bank employees in their stir. CITY leaders T Lingaiah, T Vishnuvardhan, M Gopal, Ch Kumari, M Srinivas Rao, M Thirumal and G Lingamurthy were present along with others.
