Bhadrachalam: On account of heavy rains in the upper reaches of River Godvari, water level in the river here has been rising slowly. The level in the river is measured as 17 feet on Tuesday as against 16.1 feet on Monday evening.

Further rise of water up to three feet is likely. Meanwhile, the flood waters reached the bathing ghats. The district administration had deployed police personnel and expert swimmers near the river as Ganesh idols were being brought here for immersion.

The engineering officials lifted six gates of the Taliperu project near Charla to discharge flood water into the river. The gates were lifted to a height of three feet to let out 24,412 cusecs of water.

Water level in Taliperu reservoir stood at 71.70 feet/metres on Tuesday. Inflow into the Taliperu project is put at 24,400, while 160 cusecs was being discharged from the right and left canals of the project.
