Even as onion prices touched Rs 70 a kg in the general market on Saturday, the state government has announced plans to make the essential vegetable available at Rs 35 at Rythu Bazaars by offering subsidy.

The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by minister for marketing and warehousing Mukesh Goud and civil supplies minister D Sridhar Babu, held at the Secretariat on Saturday. Also, officials of the marketing department held a meeting with association members of wholesale market and asked them to sell onions to a ‘no loss, no profit’ price.
In order to monitor the controlled price of onions and other vegetable in the market, a four- member committee, including commissioners of civil supplies department and marketing, MD Marketing Federation, and CEO of Rythu Bazaar, has been formed. It also announced to deposit the marketing intervention fund of Rs 100 crore in this regard.

Rythu Bazaars on mobile vans

In order to make the onions and other vegetables available at subsidised rates to public at their door steps, the government introduced ‘Mobile Rythu Bazaar’ organised by the Horticultural Department and was inaugurated by MLC K Nageshwar on Friday at Saket. The officer-in-charge on this occasion informed that over 14 such mobile Rytu Bazars are being run covering various locations of the twin cities. To begin with, the mobile van will reach residential colonies every Friday in the evening. Considering the response from residents, the frequency of the vehicle would be adjusted accordingly.
