NVS Reddy, HMR MD, reviewed the progress of Metro Rail works. He expressed his happiness over the progress of the project in 2013. The MD expressed confidence of sticking to the deadline and said that the target was to lay the foundation for all the pillars before the monsoon season

Metro Rail has always been viewed as the solution for traffic woes in the city. As the largest PPP project in the world, the first phase of the project from Uppal to Mettuguda is expected to be completed by March 2014. In November, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd began laying rails on the 8-km metro viaduct between Nagole and Mettuguda.

The land required for the Rs 16,375-crore project at terminal points is about 204 acres and most of the property required for transit-oriented development has been acquired.

With 15 months left for the opening of the Uppal – Mettuguda line, 2013 was a crucial year for the project. NVS Reddy, MD, Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), said that 25 per cent of work had been completed. He also expressed his pleasure over the progress of the work that started in May 2012.

“The target for us now is to lay the foundation for all the pillars before the rainy season. With an exception of corridor-2, we have decided to complete foundation works in Miyapur – LB Nagar, Nagole – Shilparamam lines,” said Reddy.

HMR has 2,700 pillars in total and foundation for 1,100 pillars has been laid. The target now is to lay the foundation for the rest of 1,600 pillars. It would take three weeks to complete one pillar and the work was going on at a break neck pace, simultaneously, at various venues. Reddy also shared the progress and targets of the works.

Targets and progress:

  1. Designing works started on field in 2013 and 25 per cent of the work has been completed
  2. Uppal depot is 86 per cent complete and it will be completed within two months
  3. 68 per cent work completed at Miyapur depot
  4. 2,700 pillars in total are to be constructed and foundation for 1,100 pillars have been laid. The target is to lay foundation for 1,600 pillars before the start of the rainy season
    950 pillars have been erected
  5. 10-km long work on the viaducts has been completed
  6. Except for a few spots, the 8km stretch of Uppal – Mettuguda line work has been completed
  7. Laying of tracks on viaducts will reach 1km mark by December 31. The track has been laid from NGRI to Survey of India
  8. Till date, L & T has spent Rs 3,100 crore and HMR Rs 900 cr
