Eyeing on a heavy tourist influx, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) and the Hyderabad Metro Developmental Authority (HMDA) have taken up multiple projects to cater to different segments of tourists in the city. These not only include eco parks, amusement parks, cultural complexes and multiplexes, but also ropeways in famous forts, caravan parks and a state-of -the-art Science City.
The old world charm of Hyderabad continues to hold its own while its modern minarets are turning really palpable, with these multiple projects, the APTDC is reaching for the stars. In an earlier conference, K Chiranjeevi, Union tourism minister, said, "Foreign tourist arrivals have grown by 2.1 per cent. The foreign exchange earnings from tourism rose by 19.8 per cent in rupee terms and 11.4 per cent in dollar terms.” Gladly, it gets better as we think. Here’s a list of the flamboyant projects in the offing
Kothwalguda Eco-Park
Now marching ahead with over six projects and with the Chief Minister’s approval to most of them, the Tourism Department is planning to have another Shilparamam-like centre at Kothwalguda in Rajendranagar.

The HMDA has secured a nod to develop an eco-park at Kothwalguda. This would be constructed on an 85-acre land, at a cost of Rs 60 crore, which would have a garden with rare and endangered species, among other facilities.
The project is set to see its completion by March 2015. A budget of Rs 4 crore has been allotted by the APTDC for the project. This project would be developed under the Urban Haat Scheme of the Ministry of Textiles. The ministry would allocate Rs 3 crore and the state government would shell out Rs 1 crore for the project.
The major attraction of the eco-park would be its rock gardens. The place would also have herb gardens, water-falls and fountains, walker’s track, and a fully devoted children’s park. The children’s park would have multi-slide rides, food courts and resorts. Another unique feature of the eco-park would be the statues on display by various artists.
Multipurpose cultural complexes at Madhapur
Facilitating a better interaction with artistes and to hold international art fests in Hyderabad, more multipurpose cultural complexes would come up at Madhapur.
“The Multipurpose Cultural Centre, would be developed near the State Art Gallery and would be inaugurated on Ugadi (March 31),” said Chandana Khan, special chief secretary, Tourism Department.
“Though the works would be completed by mid-May, the venue would be formally inaugurated on March 31. This centre would have an art gallery, textile gallery and performing art gallery.”
As a starter to this project and to encourage new attendees and participants, the State Art Gallery would host an International Art Fest from February 8 to 18. Artists from Lebanon, Australia, USA, South America, South Korea, Israel, Cyprus, Morocco, Turkey and Russia would take part in the art fest. Each participant would exhibit nearly 30-odd art works.
Multiplexes and children theme parks at Tank Bund
With a budget of Rs 2 crore, the Tourism Department is planning to develop an amusement park for children near Expotal Hotel, Lower Tank Bund. Similarly, it is also planning to develop a multiplex with an investment of Rs 250 crore under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
The proposed theme park would be one-of-its-kind and would have a garden with lighting, musical water fountains and children’s play area. The multiplex project would be developed on a 2-acre land adjacent to the Snow World. Tender notice for the project would be issued on January 25 and the bids would be finalised by February 25.

A ropeway would be developed at Bhongir with an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore. The proposed ropeway would be developed from the national highway to the Bhongir Fort. The length of the ropeway would be 870 mts and would have four cabins with carrying capacity of six passengers in each.
Tender notice for the projects would be issued on January 25 and the bids would be finalised on February 25. The ropeway is set to start its operations by mid 2015.
Science City at Budvel
The Science City, proposed on 83 acres of land, would comprise a multitude of attractions. The proposed site for the venture is Budvel in Rajendra Nagar. The project would join the cluster of Science Cities functioning at Kolkata, Kapurthala, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. It would be of international standards with ultra-modern concepts and is expected to attract at least 10 lakh visitors annually. The key attractions of the Science City would be the Space Theatre; Planetarium; IMAX 9D Vision Theatre and the Time Machine.
Caravan Parks

The concept of Caravan tourism has gained immense popularity across the globe, owing to the freedom and flexibility it provides. This would include Caravans, i.e, Recreational Vehicle (RV), Campervans, Motor Homes etc. The APTDC is discussing this proposal and would soon give out more details of the same.
Extradosed bridge at Durgam Cheruvu
The project is a collaborative venture by the Greater Hyderabad Metropolitan Corporation (GHMC), the HMDA, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) and AP Tourism Department. The bridge would link Ambedkar University to Inorbit Mall, Hitec City. It would be 350 metres long with six-lane roads system and would have the capacity of 700 PCU (Per hour car units). The GHMC officials feel that this bridge would offer a lasting solution to the traffic woes on Jubilee Hills Road No. 36.
