Anurag Sharma To Be Made Super Cop. Andhra Pradesh gearing up for President’s rule and the State heading for bifurcation there are higher possibilities of impending law and order issues. As a step of deterrence there are all chances of a complete makeover of the two police commissionerates.
- Mega police unit with the merger of two commissionerates
- City to be divided into four zones, each under an Addl DG
Former Director General of Police, V Dinesh Reddy's pet project of creating a metropolitan police unit for Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates might finally see the light of day. Now, the city would be headed by a chief city police commissioner of the rank of a DGP. According to sources, this top super cop could possibly be Anurag Sharma
With Andhra Pradesh gearing up for President’s rule and the State heading for bifurcation there are higher possibilities of impending law and order issues. As a step of deterrence there are all chances of a complete makeover of the two police commissionerates. The discussions are of merging the two commissionerates (Hyderabad and Cyberabad) and the city would be headed by a super cop of the rank of DGP. Most probably he would be called as the Chief City Police Commissioner.
The single mega police unit of the city would be divided into four zones. Each zone would be headed by an (Addl Director General) ADG who could be called Special Commissioner. The ADG could have IG rank officers to independently look after law and order, crime and traffic wings.
Former DGP Dinesh Reddy had mooted this idea which somehow did not take shape. He felt, “Criminals do not have boundaries. When a Hyderabad police commissioner externs a criminal he goes and takes shelter in areas like Kukatpally in Cyberabad. Thus the purpose was watered down. The merger was to bring uniformity in policing.”
Dinesh Reddy had suggested that Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates could be merged to form the four new commissionarates; Hyderabad, Hyderabad South, Secunderabad and Cyberabad. Sources with Governor’s office feel that this merger is likely to take shape. If the merger takes place it would likely be headed by a police officer of the rank of DGP and the two officers who could be in race are, present Hyderabad commissioner Anurag Sharma who was promoted as DGP recently and ACB chief AKKhan.
Most officers feel that it would be Anurag Sharma who would be promoted to take this responsibility as he has been in limelight for handling the bifurcation and has been aware of the problems related to bifurcation. His understanding of the temperament of various political parties and public issues related to the division might also turn beneficial. He has also worked on close quarters with the various departments related to bifurcation and their officers.
