Exclusive police stations proposed

The L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH), the concessionaire which is building the metro project in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) has urged the State government to earmark exclusive metro police stations. This is to ensure that any criminal offences related to the HMR that might occur are resolved on a fast-track mode.

Speaking to The Hans India, Chief Executive and Managing Director, L&TMRH V B Gadgil said, “We have requested the government to allot separate police stations and designate them as metro police stations for administrative convenience.”

L&T officials say that having two or three police stations for the 72 km Hyderabad Metro Rail would enable the police to take quick action. Separate police stations would enable quick redressal of grievances. Security aspects and anti-terror security are high on the agenda in the weekly Special Task Force (STF) meetings.

Senior officials at L&TMRH say that the government has to have clear-cut responsibilities on individuals involved in providing anti-terrorism security.Stating that security aspects have to be handled by the government, L&T officials point out they would take control of the asset level security that includes the depots at Uppal and Miyapur and the infrastructural facilities at metro stations, including surveillance.

The anti-terror security measures will be on the lines of those in existence at airports. Although, Delhi Metro has Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover, Bengaluru and Mumbai metro rail authorities have hired private agencies. Hyderabad Metro is yet to zero in on the choice.
