Hyderabad: Probable turncoats seem to be giving various political parties sleepless nights as announcing names of candidates for the ensuing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections would prove detrimental, apparently because the aspirants who may lose the chance to contest are likely to switch loyalties to rival parties.

Leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Congress are holding series of meetings to convince the aspirants. Unlike the general elections including (Assembly and Lok Sabha ), the municipal body elections primly depend upon the contesting candidate’s strength than the party's.

Corporator aspirants from all political parties have been expressing their displeasure over the delay in confirming their tickets, even after six days of the announcement of date of elections. The State Election Commission (SEC) released election schedule on January 8.

The tension among corporator aspirants has further increased from Wednesday as there are only two days left to file their nomination. The SEC declared holidays on January 14, 15 and January 17 will be the last date to file nominations. Some corporator aspirants said if their party did not confirm tickets by Friday evening, they were ready to shift their loyalties to others parties.

“If I am denied a ticket, I would definitely explore other options and will not hesitate to shift my loyalty,” said a TRS leader. “Our party leaders have been wasting time in holding marathon meetings for the past six days and not even confirmed the seat sharing.

If the situation continues for one more day, many of us are ready to jump to other parties, as they are ready to offer us tickets,” said another leader from BJP-TDP alliance. The corporator aspirants are of the opinion that their respective parties have been neglecting them and giving priority to defected leaders by offering tickets.

“I have been working for six years and waiting for this opportunity for the last six years and the party is contemplating to give ticket to the leader who defected from TDP,” said an aspirant from the TRS party.
Meanwhile, major parties including the Congress,

the TRS, the TDP and the BJP have not yet declared their candidates’ list and are likely to declare it by Friday evening. However, political pundits say that all political parties are adopting the same poll strategy to lure candidates, which would be great loss to them in the long run.
