Dr Utpal Bhadra, Senior Scientist and Group Leader is selected for the Bharat Jyoti Award by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi for his research contributions in the field of Biotechnology and its related areas.

Dr Utpal Bhadra, Senior Scientist and Group Leader is selected for the Bharat Jyoti Award by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi for his research contributions in the field of Biotechnology and its related areas.

Dr Bhadra's group has pioneered the Gene silencing and RNA interference technology and was the first group to identify RNAi and Gene silencing in animals. His work published in Science journal ranked as Top Ten papers for three consecutive years.

Dr Utpal Bhadra obtained his M Sc and PhD in Advanced Cytogenetics from University of Calcutta, India. After his postdoctoral fellowship in Harvard University, Cambridge and an independent faculty position in University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, USA, he joined CCMB.

Bharat Jyothi Award along with Certificate of Excellence will be presented to him at a grand annual ceremony and in a National Seminar on Economic Growth and National Integration, which will be held in New Delhi on June 6.
