Mobile data usage is gaining healthy momentum in India due to competitive and unlimited data tariff plans being offered by various telecom operators. According to the latest analysis by True Balance, India’s leading mobile balance management app, data usage is increasing not only amongst unlimited data plan users but also among normal data pack users, including the low-income users.

  • Sales of unlimited data packs from mobile carriers other than Jio has increased more than 10 times in the last six months
  • Daily data usage among normal data pack users has doubled from 90 MB in March 2017 to 180 MB in August 2017
  • Unlimited data pack users increase six-fold in the last five months

The analysis shows that the average daily data consumption among normal pack users was 90MB in March 2017. This increased 17 per cent to 105 MB in April and further increased 11 per cent to 117 MB in May. It reached a record high of 136 MB in July and further increased to 180MB in August; double of what it was in March.

Furthermore, the number of unlimited data pack users within True balance app has increased six-fold since May 2017. This increase is seen because of Indian mobile carriers expanding their sales by offering ‘1GB each day packs’. Moreover, sales of unlimited data packs from mobile carriers other than Jio has increased more than 10 times and has consecutively increased in the last six months, reaching a monthly increase rate of 167 per cent.

Speaking of the new data analysis report, Charlie Lee, CEO, True Balance said, “India’s data usage through smartphones is rapidly increasing. Although originally the data usage was high only in urban areas, in the future it will spread to rural and to the low-income bracket, making data usage universal.”

True Balance application supports inquiry and charge of prepaid mobile usage credit. The application provides real-time information on the best plans and offers from telecom operators. It also facilitates easy phone bill payments through its platform through ‘One-click recharge feature’.

It was introduced back in 2014 and has reached 40 million downloads so far, chart topping in India’s utility app category. True Balance currently covers nine telecommunications network providers in over 22 circles of the country.
