As part of ‘World Obesity Day’, Gleneagles Global Hospitals organised a day-long programme at its premises on Sunday. The event celebrated the hospital’s contribution in helping people fight obesity.

Events from a fashion ramp walk to health quiz to classical dance performances were organised by their patients who underwent bariatric surgery or undertook a weight loss programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Ravindranath, Chairman & Founder Gleneagles Global Hospitals said, “Obesity has become an epidemic, where the person gains excess weight and is unable to lose that weight through diet or any other measures. In these people, obesity is a health hazard, and can lead to health issues such as heart diseases, arthritis, hypertension etc.”

“The world has realised the fact that the healthcare technologies in Hyderabad are at par with that provided by the facilities in any advanced country, using exactly the same advanced technologies, machines and equipment as used in USA or Europe thereby delivering similar or even better results.

I appreciate the efforts of Dr KS Lakshmi and the team at the Bariatric Department of Gleneagles Global Hospitals for their expertise in performing different types of weight loss surgeries specializsng in minimally invasive procedures using advanced tools to reduce the pain and help in quick recovery with best results.

Have a healthy diet included with more millets, cereals, green vegetables to stay fit and exercise regularly to have a healthy heart and happy life,” he added.
Dr KS Lakshmi, Senior Consultant - Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, Gleneagles Global Hospitals, said, “We initiated the ‘Obesity Support Group Program’ a few years ago.

This is an initiative to bring together people suffering from morbid obesity and those who can help the patients overcome the condition. The support group helps people cope with obesity and its related health challenges; helping them understand the benefits of a bariatric surgery and providing an ecosystem where those who have undergone the procedure can interact with others and dispel any misconceptions.”

“All those who participated in the program today were once morbidly obese patients. But with the right kind of treatment at the correct time they were able to overcome their obesity related problems and are currently leading a healthy lifestyle. Also, obesity can lead to other complications and can have dire consequences,” she added.
