Malkajgiri: Local samakya of Colony Welfare Associations on Wednesday resolved to undertake a campaign on the removal of polythene material in connection with the World Environment Day on June 1. It identified the areas near the AOC driving coaching centre close to Safilguda railway station, where garbage has piled up.

The samakya is seeking cooperation of students, colony associations, volunteers, women’s organisations and NGOs in cleaning the area. It is to request them to take part in the Swacch Bharat campaign to be taken up from 6.30 am onwards on June 1 from the railway station to Safilguda bus-stop.

B T Srinivasan of the samakya said in a statement that permission of the AOC commandant, GOC Telangana and AP Sub-Area Commandant has been obtained for taking up the programme. The AOC employees have pledged their support and participation. He appealed to GHMC to arrange cleaning of the area by its sanitation staff and transportation of collected/segregated garbage. He said tea and breakfast would be provided to the participants.
