South Central Railway dispatches 70 tonnes of relief material to Kerala

Secunderabad: To help keralites hit with massive flood, the South Central Railway is on its way collecting relief materials from August 19 onwards. As of now, around 70 tonnes of relief material was sent from Secunderabad Railway station. In which about 22.5 tonnes of relief material was sent to Eranakulam by Shabari Express on Thursday.
In total 70 tonnes, the parcel office at Secunderabad Railway Station received 15 tonnes from railway employees in Secunderabad division and around 13 tonnes from other railway offices. Both the railway employees starting from the low level employees to the highly placed railway officers and district authorities contributed. About 8 tonnes of the relief material was sent from Nampally. The other districts like Kurnool and Warangal also contributed 16.5 tones and 12 tonnes of rice. On the same lines, Telangana Vijaya Dairy Corporation also gave 13.5 tones of milk powder.
The relief materials include food grains, clothing, medicines, cleaning and sanitary materials. “For now, 70 tonnes of relief materials has been sent. The South Central Railway Zone will continue to support Kerala till the living conditions are restored. We expect about 10 tonnes of relief material by Thursday evening,” said Amit Varadan, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad. He also added that on voluntary basis as many as South Central railway employees are donating their one day salary. “We wish NGOs also to participate and hand over the relief material to nearest district office from where it can be transported to the Secunderabad Railway Station,” he stated. Earlier, 11 tonnes were sent to Chengannur and 36 tones to Kottayam.
