Garbage near bus depot shocks Mayor, GHMC chief

Hyderabad : GHMC Mayor Majid Hussain and Commissioner M T Krishna Babu were taken aback at the sight of the unhygienic conditions near the Gowliguda bus depot in the Old City. Garbage, plastic bottles and debris was strewn everywhere outside the bus depot and in the Imlibun nala abutting it.

Accompanied by senior officials and Corporators, Majid Hussain and Krishna Babu inspected the major nalas near Gowliguda, Yakuthpura, Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma and Phool Bagh in the South Zone limits on Thursday.

As part of the visit, they made a brief stopover near the Gowliguda bus stop. The Mayor and the Commissioner were dissatisfied with the poor sanitary conditions outside the bus depot besides dumping of garbage in the nala. They instantly directed the deputy commissioner of Circle-5 to get in touch with the concerned RTC officials and ensure that dumping of wastage and other materials was stopped completely.

Instructions were also given to sanitation wings to place additional dustbins in the bus depot and near nala for the convenience of the passengers and locals. The chief engineer was also told to erect chain link mesh near nalas to curb the practice of dumping of garbage into the storm water drains.

The GHMC officials inspected the desilting work being carried out in various nalas and even interacted with the contractors. Majid Hussain directed the engineering officials to ensure completion of desilting works before the onset of monsoon.

Meanwhile, Krishna Babu told the officials to identify water stagnation and inundation points and take remedial measures so that old city residents were not put to inconvenience because of the heavy downpour during monsoon.
