Woman divorces to live with godman

Hyderabad : Godman Nityananda, who was arrested by Karnataka police few months ago for his alleged involvement in sexual encounters with his devotees, is said to have become the reason for separation of an NRI couple.

According to police, the woman (name not revealed) filed a complaint against her NRI husband, Srinivas, sometime ago, alleging harassment. However, the truth came out when police called the couple for counselling.

Police officials were surprised to find out that the woman and her 13-year-old daughter were staunch devotees of godman Nityananda. But, Srinivas had opposed this and asked his wife to stop going to the godman and worshipping him. This led to differences between them and she approached the Central Crime Station alleging harassment.

When police tried to counsel the woman, she refused to budge following which Srinivas agreed for mutual divorce. The woman made it clear to the police that she would go and live with Nityananda along with her daughter.
