The auction for Ganesha laddus is getting bigger year after year. The laddu prasadam used for worship of Ganesh at Madhuranagar was grabbed for a whopping Rs 16 lakh by S Panduranga Rao of DRR Aims Properties.

Hyderabad: The auction for Ganesha laddus is getting bigger year after year. The laddu prasadam used for worship of Ganesh at Madhuranagar was grabbed for a whopping Rs 16 lakh by S Panduranga Rao of DRR Aims Properties. The auction saw an intense competition and there was almost a fifteen fold increase in the final bid. It was a mere Rs 1.10 lakh in 2012. Elsewhere in the city, laddu auctioned at Sardar Patel Nagar in Kukatpally fetched Rs 8.25 lakh.
In keeping with tradition, auctions were held for Ganesh laddus on the occasion of Ganesh Nimajjanam in and around the city. However, the laddus auctioned at Balapur, Ameerpet, Amberpet, and Madhuranagar, Kukatpally saw people vying with one another to secure the much coveted Prasad. The Ameerpet laddu fetching a whopping Rs 12 lakh.
The most famous of all, Balapur laddu weighing 21 kg hogged the limelight on the Ananta Chaturdashi, the auspicious day for Nimajjanam. It fetched a record Rs 9.26 lakh this time, surpassing last year’s price of Rs 7.5 lakh. Former city Mayor and head of TKR institutions, Teegala Krishna Reddy, bagged the laddu which, he said, would be presented to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and his family members.
At Ameerpet noted construction company VVR Housing Private Limited emerged the highest bidder and got the laddu for Rs 12 lakh. Laddu auctioned in Ganesh Pandal in Attapur on the city outskirts went for Rs 3.25 lakh. Likewise, auction organized by TRS leader Aedla Sudhaker Reddy under the aegis of Amberpet Ganesh Seva Samithi in Amberpet fetched Rs 2.01 lakh, the highest price so far.
