50 Foot over bridges for city soon,In an attempt to realize the dream of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to make Hyderabad a true global smart city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Somesh Kumar has come up with an innovative idea of constructing as many as 50 FOB (Foot Over Bridges) with lifts in various parts of the city
Hyderabad : In an attempt to realize the dream of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to make Hyderabad a true global smart city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Somesh Kumar has come up with an innovative idea of constructing as many as 50 FOB (Foot Over Bridges) with lifts in various parts of the city. Although the concept of FOBs with escalators is popular across the globe, the concept of FOBs with lifts is new to India.
Speaking to Metro India, the GHMC Commissioner confirmed the news and said that the project would be a reality in six months. “It is true that we have decided to set up 50 FOBs with lifts. A consultant has been appointed to prepare a detailed report for the execution of the project. The consultant will also prepare various designs of the FOBs. The main objective behind setting up of these FOBs is to prevent road accidents and inconvenience to pedestrians,” he told Metro India. The commissioner revealed that the FOB project would not only provide livelihood to 200 physically challenged persons, but also generate revenue to the corporation.
“The project has a humanitarian angle to it. We have decided to employ physically challenged persons to operate these lifts. Each FOB will have four persons. The FOBs would also earn income for the corporation in the form of advertisements,” he said. The corporation has decided to utilize the income generated by the FOBs for their maintenance. Each FOB is likely to cost Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore for the corporation, based on the nature and length of the road.
Some of the important areas identified by the corporation to kick start the project are Jubilee Hills Check Post, Banjara Hills Road No.2, Jubilee Hills Road No.45, Banjara Hills Road No.1, Paradise Junction, KPHB Bus Stop, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Miyapur, Wipro Circle, Kondapur Junction, Kothaguda junction, BHEL,Chandanagar, Nizampet,Narsapur crossroads, Rathifile bus stand, Necklace road People’s Plaza, Balanagar junction, GV, Care Banjara Hospital, RR collectorate and Tolichowki temple junction.
