In a bid to conserve power, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner (GHMC) Somesh Kumar convened a meeting with all the major advertising agencies, hoteliers and various business establishments and requested them to reduce the usage of power. The step is being taken due to the power crisis and the growing need for power by farmers.

  • Hoardings to be lit up only between 6 pm-10 pm
  • All streetlights in the GHMC limits to use LEDs in the coming months

The Commissioner instructed the advertising agencies to cut short the usage of power for hoardings and limit it between 6 pm-10 pm. The Commissioner added that the GHMC has taken up the conversion of streetlights into LEDs in the West Zone and as a result, 60 per cent of power is being saved.

“The GHMC would be converting all the streetlights under its limits to LEDs in the coming months. To this effect, proposals are being placed before the standing committee and after its approval, the GHMC will take up the project on priority,” he added.

The GHMC is also planning to spread awareness among the people by alerting them on the prudent use of electricity at homes.

The Commissioner directed all the zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners and senior officials of all the wings to reduce the power consumption in all their offices and further instructed them to personally monitor and see that usage of power is being controlled.
