5,560 special buses to ply in Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh for the festival

A total of 5,560 special buses will ply through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh from January 8 to 13 to meet the Sankranti rush, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation announced on Wednesday. However, citizens will have to shell out some extra cash to avail the service. The APSRTC has hiked the prices and will be charging 50 per cent more on tickets to various destinations across the two states.

The special buses will operate from MGBS, CBS and JBS.

G Jaya Rao, executive director, Greater Hyderabad Zone, RTC, claims that despite the price hike, the corporation will incur a loss of Rs 1.25 crore for running the special buses.

“Though the APSRTC is in huge losses for the past three years, we have continued to ensure that citizens have a safe and a comfortable journey,” he said.

In order to avoid the last minute rush, passengers can book tickets in advance from 275 authorised ticket booking agents located across twin cities and e-booking. For passenger convenience, enquiry counters will be available at MGBS, CBS and JBS. Around 200 security supervisors and guards will be posted at the bus stations.
