Prominent colonies from here are AC Guards Mahatma Gandhi Colony, Owaisi Pura, Potti Sriramulu Nagar, Shantinagar Colony, Sriramnagar Colony, State Bank of Hyderabad Colony, Venkatadri Colony, etc. Major malls, hospitals, banks, ATMs, branded restaurants and many business houses are located here.
The APSRTC runs buses that connect the area to all parts of the city. The closest MMTS train station is at Lakdikapul. The Imliban Bus Stand is 4.6 km away, the Secunderabad Railway Station is 8 km, and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is 22 km away.
Masab Tank is a distorted version of Maa-Sahaba Tank. Maa-Sahaba was a title endowed on Hayat Bakshi Begum, wife of Qutub Shahi VI. The ‘Talab’ or tank was built by Khanum Agha, Qutub Shah V’s mother, but it become famous after his wife as ‘Talab-e-Maa-Sahaba’. The upgraded ‘Maa Sahaba Talab’ got anglicised to Masab Tank.
Subsequently, the lake and its surroundings areas came to be called as Masab Tank. Now, there is neither water nor tank. The tank vanished over a period of time, and in its place the Chacha Nehru Park has come up. The entire area has developed with posh colonies and multinational business houses and commercial complexes.
A cop from the Asifnagar Traffic Police said, “The footpaths are occupied by the shopkeepers and street vendors, forcing pedestrians to walk on the main road. This is leading to occasional accidents, some very fatal. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has to take strict action against the footpath encroachments and make them available.”
Jitendra, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, said, “The bus stop located at Pension Payment office on Road No. 12 is very small. The crowd gathered there prevents the free flow of traffic. We request the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) to relocate the bus stand to ensure free flow of traffic. We appeal to the GHMC to widen the road to ensure permanent solution to the traffic problem.”
