Protest to restrict heavy vehicle movement at Yapral

The youth of Yapral and JJ Nagar staged a protest on Sunday to restrict the movement of lorries in the area recently. This was following two separate incidents where a youth, Johnny, was crushed to death and an old man sustained injuries. “The number of accidents due to lorries has risen alarmingly in the area. Johnny’s death is the second accident in four days!

This is a residential area that has four schools and the movement of heavy vehicles compromises the safety of children,” said Charles Benjamin, one of the protestors. “Last year there was a similar accident in the area where a girl had died. The number of deaths can be counted on the fingers, but the number of accidents can’t. The area has become an accident prone zone. Hence, the movement of lorries must be restricted in the area,” said Dhanalakshmi, another protestor.
