Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy on Monday stated that the State government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore to tackle water scarcity during the coming summer and provide safe drinking water to the people. Participating in the Ranga Reddy district zilla parishad general body meeting held by ZP Chairperson Sunitha Mahender Reddy at ZP Meeting Hall on Monday, the transport minister said that while Rs 5 crore was earmarked to take up repair works of old borewells, the remaining amount was aimed to supply drinking water to habitations.

On the government’s flagship programme Mission Kakatiya, Mahender Reddy informed that Rs 144 crore was sanctioned to take up restoration works of 492 tanks in the district. Directing the irrigation officials to complete the restoration works by the end this month, he stated that severe action would be initiated against the officials if there was any irregularity in the programme. In other news, he stated that the government has increased the pension amount to Rs 32 crore from the Rs 7 crore that had been distributed to the people during the previous government’s rule.
