Hyderabad: Bhanu Kiran, accused of killing his factionist-mentor Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy aka Maddelacheruvu Suri, who is presently cooling his heels in the Chanchalguda Prison, is learnt to have made frantic efforts to secure bail after November 8, 2016.

Sources said Bhanu tried to lure the CID sleuths concerned offering Rs 25 lakh for not objecting to his bail application.

He was desperate to get out of the prison because he wanted to convert the demonetized currency notes into legal tender.

Sources said Bhanu had accumulated about Rs 25 crore in cash in the denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, which are now invalid.

Since he alone was aware of the places where the money was hidden, Bhanu was desperate to get out of the prison at least for a short period.

Sources in the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services also confirmed that Bhanu did try his best to get an assurance from the CID officials that his application for bail would not be objected.

However, the plan did not work out as the CID officials refused the offer.

Instead, they asked Bhanu to reveal the secret locations where his money was hidden so that they could lay their hands on the ill-gotten money and pocket it themselves, sources said adding that the CID officials made a reverse offer that a chunk of the ill-gotten money would be given to Bhanu after converting it into legal tender.

Even as the negotiations and bargains were underway, the deadline for exchange of the demonetised currency notes with new currency notes came
to an end much to the disappointment of Bhanu.
