A man named ‘Osama bin Laden’ has been arrested in Brazil for committing electoral fraud.

Manoel Nunes de AssisManoel Nunes de Assis was wearing a tunic similar to the one the late terror leader was often seen in when police detained him for illegal campaigning in Manaus city in Amazon.

He was running for the marginal National Labor Party (PTN).

Nunes de Assis was arrested after being seen urging voters to choose him while handing out bottles of water, the express.co.uk reported.

The election in the Brazilian city allowed candidates to run under whatever name they wanted. Others opted for comic book superhero Wonder Woman, 80s action movie hero Rambo and a number of people ran under the name Barack Obama, the report said.

"He stood in the doorway on the pretext of selling water while approaching people and asking for votes," the Express quoted electoral magistrate Henrique Veiga as saying.

Two other people were also campaigning under bin Laden's name.

The real al Qaeda leader was killed in May 2011 after a ten-year manhunt.

He was tracked down at a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, where he was shot and killed by an elite group of US Navy Seals.

Nunes de Assis now faces being removed from the election race if found guilty of violating rules.
