Nairobi: Gunmen have massacred 36 people in northeast Kenya in the latest attack by suspected militants from Somalia’s Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shebab rebels in the troubled region, officials said on Tuesday. A group of gunmen attacked a quarry near the town of Mandera on Tuesday.

After spraying tents where the quarry workers slept with gunfire, the militants then weeded out non-Muslims and shot them in the head. Some of the victims were also beheaded.
Kenya’s interior minister and police chief were removed from their posts hours after the Shebab rebels carried out massacre the northeast of the country.
