'International Buddhist Confederation' to spread message of peace, brotherhood

Buddhism has its roots in many countries and in every continent of the world. The religion connects people and spreads peace and harmony.
India's northeast region bordering Southeast Asia is also deeply influenced by Buddhism.
Hundreds of Buddhist followers assembled in Thailand's Ayutthaya on March 1 for an international gathering aimed at promoting the values of Buddhism.
The gathering at the historic Maha Tat temple, an ancient ruin in Ayuttahaya's national park, was attended by delegates from 320 organisations in 39 countries.
"IBC aims to provide a common platform to all Buddhist traditions and organisations to not only serve the path of the Dharma but also to serve humanity. It's our endeavour to make the eternal message of the Buddha: compassion, peace, harmony, non-violence and respect to all sentient beings and mother nature," said Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuk, Princess Bhutan and chairman of the IBC.
During the conference, Buddhist scholars and intellectuals discussed promoting Bodh Gaya in India, where Buddha is said to have obtained enlightenment and is the most important site for Buddhism.
Bodh Gaya is popular not just among Buddhist followers but among the tourists who visit India.
During the discussions, it was agreed to set up a Buddhist University in North-East India, preferably in Tripura.
Former Indian diplomat and founder president of Kalinga Langka Foundation, Lalit Mansingh, said we are trying to have a closer association with Bodh Gaya.
"And I think the discussion now is how we can have our central headquarters in Bodh Gaya. There has already been discussion between the Chief Minister of Bihar where Bodh Gaya is located. And he has invited the IBC to come and set up its headquarters there. So that's the discussion that is going on," he added.
Buddhism, which spreads the message of peace, can play a vital role in bringing global peace and development.
