Hyderabad: On Friday, Day 45 of the agitation, Samaikyandhra supporters blocked the Sulurpet-Sriharikota highway in Nellore district and also stopped vehicles carrying Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) staff, preventing them from attending duty. Elsewhere in the district, NGOs forced the closure of banks and central government offices. They moved around Nellore town, forcing banks to close after sending out the staff. In Seemandhra, agitators forced post offices and other Central establishments to shut down.

In Vijayawada, the Samaikyandhra JAC organised a ‘Mahila Garjana’ opposing the division of the State. Integrationist Satyavani demanded withdrawal of the decision. Women from across Krishna district thronged the venue, Swaraj Maidan. In Bapatla, agitators organised a ‘Maha Jana Garjana’.

Undi MLA Vetukuri Venkata Sivarama Raju, in a novel protest, raised mounds of salt on the national highway. He then sold fish to express his opposition to the division of the State. The Student JAC tried to lay siege to the house of Union Minister Kishore Chandra Deo in Visakhapatnam. The police took several protestors into custody.

Teachers raised slogans against Raju at Kadgavalasa in Gurugubilli mandal. Activists of TDP demonstrated against the Minister in Naguru, demanding his resignation.

Doctors of Ruia Hospital, who have been agitating for 23 days, and students, sporting masks of Central Seemandhra Ministers, gave treatment to passers-by in Tirupati, even while raising Samiakyandhra slogans. Students, under the banner of S V Institutions, took out a rally from Jesusnagar that passed through the streets of Anantapur to Clock Tower. Amid slogans, they garlanded the Telugu Talli statue.
