Suryapet: Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy observed that the fishing community across the State will get maximum benefit from the new irrigation projects that are being constructed on Godavari and Krishna rivers.

Speaking to the media after releasing fish seedlings into Saddula Cheruvu in Suryapet on Tuesday, the Minister said the previous governments in the State had neglected the welfare of fishermen and other backward classes but the Chief Minister, K Chadrashekar Rao, had conceived the idea of releasing of fish seedlings into water bodies and distribution of sheep to improve the livelihood of good number of people of neglected sections.

As many as 13,000 families have been earning Rs 10 crore with 2.11 crore fish seedlings that were released in water bodies in the district during 2016-17, he informed. Targeting Rs 23 crore revenue to 16,000 fishermen families, as many as five crore fish seedlings will be released in water bodies during 2017-18 fiscal year, he added.

District Collector Surendra Mohan, Municipal Chairperson Ganduri Pravallika, RDO Mohan Rao, Market Committee Chairman Y Venkateshwarlu, District Library Chairman Srinivas Goud, district fisheries department official Soujanya and others were participated.
