With just one month left for reaching the deadline of works of Mission Bhagiratha Project, aimed at providing drinking water through taps to every individual household across the State, the district authorities in Mahabubnagar are racing against time to meet the deadline by completing the works of laying pipelines, construction of tanks and water treatment plants in the district.

Mahbubnagar: With just one month left for reaching the deadline of works of Mission Bhagiratha Project, aimed at providing drinking water through taps to every individual household across the State, the district authorities in Mahabubnagar are racing against time to meet the deadline by completing the works of laying pipelines, construction of tanks and water treatment plants in the district.

According to latest status report of Mission Bhagiratha in the district, as against a total length of 98.31 kilometres of water pipeline, the authorities have successfully completed laying of pipelines over a length of 75.5 kilometres, while pipes needed for remaining length have already been supplied and the works are under brisk progress.

Similarly, for supplying drinking water to 14. 85 lakh people across 26 mandals and 1,300 villages and habitations in the district, the authorities have drafted a comprehensive plan of laying a total length of 2,663.42 kilometres pipeline connecting all the villages and habitations. As per the latest status report, the authorities have already supplied pipes required to cover a length of 2,651 kilometres, of which a length of 2,406 kilometres pipeline laying works have been completed.

“More than 90 per cent works under Mission Bhagiratha have been completed. Out of 1,300 villages, 246 villages are already supplied with drinking water under the scheme. Apart from completing major chunk of laying of pipeline works, we have almost completed the construction of two water treatment plants. As against a total of 79 water tanks, we have completed 30 tanks, while reaming 49 are under brisk progress,” informed a senior official, connected with the Mission Bhagiratha works in the district.

There are 260 crossing works undergoing in the district. Of them, 179 works are already completed while remaining 81 are under progress. As the deadline given by the State government to provide pure drinking water getting closer, the district officials are racing against time to complete the pending works in the targeted period.
