The coronation (Pattabhishekam) ceremony of Lord Ramachandra Swamy was performed with full royal honors in Bhadrachalam temple on Tuesday. The rituals, which are unique to Lord Sri Rama, were watched by lakhs of devotees. Later, the priests performed Mahakumbha teertha Prokshana.

Bhadrachalam: The coronation (Pattabhishekam) ceremony of Lord Ramachandra Swamy was performed with full royal honors in Bhadrachalam temple on Tuesday. The rituals, which are unique to Lord Sri Rama, were watched by lakhs of devotees. Later, the priests performed Mahakumbha teertha Prokshana.

Pattabhishekam of Lord Rama is conducted only in the historical temple of Bhadrachalam, which is conducted on the following day of Sri Rama Navami.

The beautifully decorated deities were brought from the main temple to Mithila Stadium amid vedic chanting and the priests performed Viswakshena puja at 10 am. After some rituals, Seer Chinna Jeeyar Swamy performed the coronation programme in a traditional way. He also presented ‘pattu vastralu’ to the deities.

Vedic scholar Gudimella Krishnamacharyulu explained to the devotees the significance of the coronation ceremony. Noted scholar STG Antravedi Krishnama Charyulu gave a discourse on the fete. Lord Rama was adorned with emerald ornaments, an umbrella, sandals, sword and Chintaku Patakam and was crowned amidst people chanting Jai Jai Sri Ram. Lord Anjaneya was adorned with a chain of pearls.

During the coronation programme, Seer Chinna Jeeyar Swamy explained the history of the coronation and also explained the importance of Telugu new year, Vilabmi. All those, who witnessed Sri Rama Kalyanam and Sri Rama Pattabhishekam are fortunate as Lord Rama’s birth year is Vilambi and the day will come after 60 years, he said.

Before commencing the programme, Seer Chinna Jeeyar Swamy visited Lord Rama Temple and conducted special puja. He offered prayers to Goddess Lakshmi Ammavaru and Lord Anjaneya Swamy. The temple priests welcomed the Seer with temple honors.

District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, Joint Collector M Ramkishan, Sub-Collector Pamela Sathpathy, Superintendent of Police Amber Kishore Jha, ASPs Sangram Patel and B Ashok Kumar, former central minister Balaram Naik, temple Executive Officer K Prabhakar Srinivas, district officers and others attended the programme.

Meanwhile, the temple administration heaved a sigh of relief on the successful conduct of the celestial wedding of Lord Sri Rama on Monday and the coronation programme on Tuesday.
