Nagarkurnool: The Backward Classes (BC) Students Association convenor attempted to commit suicide by consuming pesticide on Wednesday.

According to local reports, it is said that Aravind Chary had been giving representations to the Joint Collector and the Revenue officials (DRO), urging them to resolve the problems being faced by the BC community students studying in various BC welfare residential schools in the district.

Alleging that the officials had failed to take remedial measures, Aravind Chary had taken the extreme step of attempting to commit suicide by consuming pesticide.

Some of the student leaders from Nagarkurnool said that Aravind Chary was very active to highlight the problems and issues being faced by the students of BC welfare hostels in Nagarkurnool district. Till date, even though the State government had sanctioned BC welfare hostels long ago, they are not having permanent building and are run in rented buildings with inadequate facilities.

Aravind Chary has been demanding that the officials initiate steps for the construction of new BC welfare building for the students on priority basis, but officials did not take notice of his please, the students alleged. “The students’ association leader had many times represented to the officials on lack of facilities in BC welfare hostels and also highlighted the problems being faced by the students.

He even thought of organising protests. However, with the police clamping down Act 30, the students could not stage protests. Unable to digest all this and having become frustrated, Aravind Chary might have taken to this extreme step,” said some of the BC Student Association members.

However, there are others who are saying that Aravind might have been having some other family related problem due to which he may have taken to such a step. At present his condition is stable and is undergoing treatment in the Nagarkurnool district Hospital.
