Khammam: Representative of various Social and people's organisations here on Thursday demanded that Supreme Court restore the status quo ante with regard to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The representatives staged a silent protest and later paid tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar at ZP centre here.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of the Intellectual Forum B V Raghavulu alleged that the governments was trying to dilute the Act. The government, he said, had failed to check the atrocities being perpetrated on the weaker sections. The Act, if implemented, would provide protection to Dalits. The Kerala government had already filed review petition in the court. He demanded that the TRS government, too, follow suit.

The people’s organisation would stage demonstration in fron to the Collectorate on May 25, he said. He appealed to the representatives of various people's organisations, intellectuals, youth and students to participate in the protest in large numbers and make it a grand success.

IDWA district secretary Macharla Bharati, KVPS district secretary Nandipati Manohar, Bandi Padma, K Amaravati, Tanya, Nagamani, Ajith, Begum, M Prasad, Indira, M Upendar, Ramu, Balaji, Krishna, Ramurthy and Gopal were present.
