Mahbubnagar: District Collector Ronald Rose has directed the officials of all departments including Electricity, Rural Water Supply and Municipal Administration to make sure that all necessary basic amenities like power, water and sanitary facilities are provided at all dargahs, idgas and masjids across the district during the holy month of Ramzan.

Addressing in a review meeting with district officials, councillors and leaders of minority community and religious elders here on Monday, the District Collector said Ramazan festival was a monthlong fasting process and as it was already hot summer, Muslim devotees should be provided with all kinds of facilities like drinking water and power at masjids, idgas and dargahs after the evening prayers across the district.

Asking municipal officials to give highest priority to cleanliness at all the places of worship, the Collector directed the municipal authorities to ensure that there should not be any dumping of garbage near idgas, dargahs and masjids. “Ramzan month is the most sacred month and Muslim minorities go for a monthlong fasting during this period. It is our duty to provide all the necessary facilities for the devotees.

We have directed the Electricity Department and the Water Supply Department to ensure that uninterrupted power and water be provided and see that there is no garbage dumping done in and around these worshipping areas,” said the Collector.

Particularly during nights, Muslim devotees keep themselves awake during the one-month period and do shopping. For their convenience, the Collector has given permission for shops and business centres except bars and wine shops to function up to 1 am clock and directed the Electricity Department officials to complete the pending and repair works relating to power lines in these areas.

The Civil Supplies authorities were also directed to provide necessary ration items and one kilogram of sugar and wheat extra than the actual allocation in the ration cards. Stressing on sanitation, the Collector has also directed the municipal authorities to ensure that garbage collecting staff goes to each household every morning and collects the domestic waste and at the same time ensures that there is no menace of pigs and dogs in the surrounding areas of worshipping places. As the government is also providing free cloths to minorities during Ramzan, the Collector has directed the officials to make sure that distribution process is conducted without any problems.
