Kurnool: The UPA Government has brought Rayala Telangana issue to the fore only to win the village panchayat elections, B V Raghavulu, CPM State secretary alleged here on Sunday. He was here to participate in the meeting to protect democracy organised in protest against the demolition of the huts and attack on the human rights of the poor. Earlier, Raghavulu visited the Hamid Hyder Nagar colony where the government razed out the huts of the poor without any prior notice. He expressed anger against the government for its illegal act of removing poor people's dwellings. He demanded payment of Rs 3 lakh compensation to each of the hut demolished. Referring the Congress party's strategy, Raghavulu said that the Congress was conspiring to hoodwink people in the name of Rayala Telangana and special packages. The Telangana issue would be eclipsed after elections to the village panchayts was over, he said. However, the CPM was committed for a united Andhra Pradesh, he said. CPM leaders Gafoor, district president Shadrak, Prabhakar Reddy, CPI state committee member Ramakrsihna, CPI district secretary Ramanjaneyulu, TDP districr president Somisetty Venkateswarlu, PUlla Reddy and leaders of various parties were present.
