CHENNAI: On Friday, the Supreme Court appointed third judge Justice M Sathyanarayanan of the Madras high court. The judge has reserved his order on the 18 AIADMK legislators disqualification case. 18 MLAs who faced disqualification against TN CM Edappadi K Palaniswami are about to face their fate on the verdict of the third judge.

The Chief Justice, Indira Banerjee, upheld the decision of the assembly speaker in disqualifying the MLAs under the anti-defection law in the split verdict passed by the court on June 14. The second judge, Justice M Sundar, had set aside the disqualification order of the speaker on the grounds of perversity, non-compliance with principles of natural justice and malafide.

Then the senior judge of the High Court, Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh, had appointed Justice S Vimala as the third judge to decide the case. On June 27, Justice Sathyanarayanan was appointed as the third judge by the Supreme Court.
