BENGALURU: PA city-based startup is said to be launching a smart dock-less bicycle which shall be shared in 20 places. The initiative mainly aims at providing first- and last-mile connectivity and cater to the shorter-distance travel.

On Thursday the city-based Yulu bikes, in association with the Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA), will be launching the initiative. According to them, they are looking at the software professionals, students and cycling enthusiasts. In the first phase, Yulu said that they will introduce 100 cycles.

Hemant Gupta, the chief of operations, Yulu, said, “We will introduce 20 unmanned zones. We use IoT technology to create a vast network of shared dock-less bicycles that can be rented easily through a user-friendly app under the pay-per-use business model. One can get to know about the nearest Yulu zone on the app and pay online. For 30 minutes, we will charge Rs 10 and there will be 30-day and 60-day packages too.”

He added that the bicycle will also be carrying a battery and GPS equipment which will be installed to locate the user.

Rama NS, CEO, ELCITA, said that “they were supporting the initiative because bicycles can reduce the traffic congestion by providing an efficient, clean and green solution, besides also promoting a healthy and eco friendly lifestyle to the people of Electronics City.”
