It was heartening to read the article ‘Memories fade: 10 years of 26/11 Mumbai terror mayhem (THI, Nov 26). In 26 November 2008, 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a recognised terror outfit, carried out 12 shootings and bombings across Mumbai, in a siege that lasted four days and claimed at least 160 lives.

Most of the attacks took place at the popular spots of South Mumbai - Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Oberoi Trident, Taj Palace & Tower, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital, Nariman House Jewish community centre, Metro Cinema, and in a lane behind the St Xaviers College. Monday, 26 November, marked ten years since the deadly terror attacks in Mumbai.

It was a dark chapter in the history of independent India that showed the weak security and intelligence system in the country. However, the bloody incident that shocked the entire country seemed to have waken the administration.

Both Central and Maharashtra governments now claim to have built proper security mechanism in place. Let’s hope such horrific incident will not recur in the country. My prayers for the victims and their families.
