New Delhi: APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana on Saturday called on AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Digvijay Singh to brief him on the situation in the Seemandhra region. Talking to mediapersons after the meeting with Digvijay Singh, Botcha Satyanarayana defended Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and himself over their being worried for the Seemandhra region.

He said they hailed from that region and as the people’s representatives it was their bounden duty to allay the apprehensions of the people of their region. Botcha Satyanarayana, who also discussed the modalities for the meetings of the Congressmen and women from Seemandhra region with Antony Committee, made it clear that Antony Committee will not impede the process of formation of Telangana.

It is a Congress panel, for the Congress leaders and when the Government sets up a committee, experts and others will represent to it. Botcha Satyanarayana pointed out that following the UPA decision on bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, an agitation broke out in the Seemandhra region.

The Chief Minister, himself, the Union Ministers, MPs and MLAs from the Seemandhra region had represented to the Congress High Command that it should step in to allay the people’s doubts on education, employment, water-sharing, revenue-sharing and power-sharing issues, besides the status of Hyderabad.

It was pointed out by the Seemandhra Congress leaders that the Congress High Command should allay the fears of the people, before proceeding with the process on Telangana. Congress president Sonia Gandhi has decided to set up Antony Committee and asked us to represent to it. The APCC president said that the issue was raised in the party and so the party panel was set up. When the Government is seized of the process, it will set up the official committee, with which all others can interact.

Botcha Satyanarayana dismissed the resignations of YSRCP leaders Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Y S Vijayamma as a political stunt. Even the TDP had given consent to the creation of Telangana.
