New Delhi (Agencies): Just days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that he will be “very happy” to work under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, another senior Congress leader has come out in support of the young Gandhi scion.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Wednesday said that “Rahul Gandhi is their candidate for the Prime Minister’s post” in 2014 General Elections.
Shinde added that the same has been conveyed earlier also. The remarks follow PM’s suggestion that he was ready to don any role in the Congress after the 2014 General Elections. Singh had said that Rahul, the current Congress vice-president, will be an “ideal choice” for the PM’s post.
Meanwhile, one of the convicts in the Dec 16 gang-rape case moved a Delhi court seeking issuance of contempt notice against Shinde for his reported statement that death is assured for the four convicts in the case. The application was moved on behalf of convict Mukesh before Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna for action against Shinde under section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act during beginning of the arguments on quantum of sentence to be awarded for the four convicts. "The Home Minister reacted sharply soon after the judgement and said that-we have strengthened the law. Now trials in such case would be done under the new law. Death is assured in this case," Mukesh said in the application.
