Jaipur: Aruna Roy, Magsaysay Award winner, activist and the force behind RTI Act and NREGA has resigned from Tehelka Foundation.
In response to an SMS texted to her by India Today seeking her stand on alleged rape attempt by Tarun Tejpal, founder editor of Tehelka, Roy said : "I am resigning from the Tehelka Foundation which is not-for-profit foundation."
She said she would be releasing a press note soon and that she was right now in deep interiors of Rajasthan with limited access to communication. Arun Maira, a member of the Planning Commission and chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Central University, said he would take a call about his association with the Foundation after discussing it with Puneeta Roy, a founder trustee of the Foundation. "It is a new foundation and not linked to Tehelka," he initially said. When informed about Aruna Roy's resignation, he said he would now think about the future course.
"We attended its first meeting two months ago," he said.
