New Delhi: The AAP alleged that a huge cover-up was engineered in the telecom scam (2G) to protect Parliamentarian M Kanimozhi, the daughter of M Karunanidhi, who heads the DMK.
Prashant Bhushan, a senior leader of the AAP, said that leaked audio tapes prove Kanimozhi's complicity in accepting a 200-crore kickback from a telecom firm which was among those who received an out-of-turn mobile network license by her party's A Raja when he was Telecom Minister in 2008. Mr Raja and Kanimozhi have both spent time in jail on criminal charges in connection with the telecom swindle, worth 1.76 lakh crores according to the national auditor.
Mr Bhushan, a lawyer-activist, said that M Karuanidhi, the 89-year-old chief of the DMK, "was in the know and involved with the cover-up."
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal joined hundreds of students from the North-East in a protest against the death of 20-year-old Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Taniam, and launched another blistering attack on the Delhi Police.
"Nido's fight isn't a North Eastern issue...It's a national issue...we have to fight this racism together," the CM said and added, "Whoever is guilty in this case, whether it is the police or the accused, we will have to get together to ensure they are hanged."
Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde promised to take action against those responsible for the death of a 19-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh and ensure a speedy probe.
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering said the Home Minister gave the assurance when he, accompanied by a delegation of students from the northeast, met him.
A livid Congress hit back at the Delhi Government's recommendation seeking action against former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the basis of a Lokayaukta order in a case relating to alleged irregularities in regularising unauthorised colonies. "The colonies were not only issued provisional regularisation certificates, Sheila government also carried out developmental work in those colonies," Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely said.
Alleging that Kejriwal is against the development works being carried out in unauthorised colonies, Lovely said, "AAP government is enemy of unauthorised colonies." Congress said that they will request Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to stop the AAP Government from implementing the Jan Lokpal bill, terming it to be 'unconstitutional'.
"We will submit a memorandum to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung about the unconstitutional Jan Lokpal Bill, which has been brought to create a political drama," Lovely said.
Warning of a cut in power supplies in the National Capital, state-owned NTPC said Reliance Group owned distribution companies here have a history of payment defaults and their electricity supply would be curtailed if they fail to pay their dues of around Rs 368 crore by Monday.
Reliance Infra-backed BSES discoms criticised Delhi Government for recommending to power regulator DERC to revoke their licenses, saying the proposal was "arbitrary" and "illegal" and will be a huge setback to power sector reforms.
