New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi tore into the BJP’s hate and communal politics. “If I am in politics, I am here only to protect the Composite Indian Culture. More than in power politics, it is protecting this secular fabric of the country that is my goal. Power is only a means, but certainly not an end in itself,” she declared.

This election is a contest between two visions. One side is the BJP, which wants to create hatred between brothers and on the other side is the Congress, which stands for the national unity and integrity.

Addressing the Congress election rally in the Capital on Sunday evening, Sonia Gandhi asked the Opposition to learn the lesson in patriotism from the Congress, whose leaders made the greatest sacrifices for the nation. While the Congress leaders made the greatest sacrifices, the Opposition was eyeing power through glib talk, she charged.

In a spirited address, Sonia Gandhi urged the people to see through the designs of the Opposition and side with the Congress ideology, which stands for unity and diversity and for maintaining communal harmony. Sonia Gandhi said defending the secular fabric was her primary concern. Raising the spectre of the communal politics of the saffron brigade, Sonia Gandhi said secular ideal was important to keep the country united.

Mounting a scathing attack of the Opposition trying to talk of patriotism Sonia Gandhi said those, who negate the secular values, can never understand patriotism. These forces, for their selfish political ends, want to mislead the people, in order to capture power at the Centre.
