"On the occasion of #KargilVijayDiwas, salutes to all those brave soldiers who gave their lives to keep our country safe," she tweeted.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Chiefs of the three services paid tribute to the Kargil war heroes at the Amar Jawan Jyoti here this morning.

The Kargil war, which began in May 1999, lasted for more than two months before the Pakistani soldiers withdrew from the icy peaks across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. As many as 533 jawans and officers had sacrificed their lives during the war.
