Hon Minister of Women and child development Mrs.Maneka Gandhi was in Bangalore recently and was the Chief Guest and Keynote speaker of Gau Gyan Foundation (a NGO which saves animals from illegal slaughter) and Jain Foundation's joint event 'Ek Din Jeev Daya ke naam'.
The main objective of the program was to educate the citizens on the importance of protecting animals in order to save the planet. The ill-effects of the rampant use of chemicals and fertilizers in the food chain and its impact on human health were also discussed in the program.
Mrs.Maneka Gandhi said ' we cannot save the animals, in fact they save us as they play a key role in the ecological balance which ensures the survival of human life on our planet. She shared the simple example of the role of cockroaches whom we all kill by pumping various chemical sprays in getting rid of human waste from sewage water preventing rapid pollution of rivers in which this sewage water flows.
She also spoke about bovine exploitation by humans to maximise profits by pumping them with oxytoxin (a illegal hormone which is openly illegally produced in Thane in the country and sold in bulk to all dairies in the country) which is injected twice daily, to increase milk flow in the cows/buffaloes .This injection not also causes severe pain and suffering in the cows ,it has dire consequences on human health as it is directly responsible for causing TB, Leukemia and even breast cancer in humans. These hormones first cause leukemia in the cows and then the Bovine Virus cancer enters humans through their milk .
She also praised NGOs like Gau Gyan Foundation and People for Animals (PFA) for their efforts in stopping illegal smuggling of cattle and camels in the country.
J P Guruji of The Jain Foundation announced the formation of XYZ Samiti to facilitate the start of a new gaushala in Bangalore to shelter all animals rescued by NGOs like Gau Gyan Foundation in Karnataka.Mrs.Maneka Gandhi unveiled the banner and logo of this new Gaushala Samiti.
