“Even if Rajiv Gandhi had not been assassinated in 1991 PV Narasimha Rao would have become Prime Minister,” opined Dr Sanjaya Baru, who has worked as media adviser to former PM Manmohan Singh.

He was speaking at a panel discussion, which was organised by Hyderabad Park at Saptaparni in Banjara Hills.

Former Director of CBI, K Vijaya Rama Rao and NV Subhash, grandson of PV Narasimha Rao also shared reasons about why his own party was denied place in history.

The panel discussion was titled ‘The Forgotten Son of Telangana’ and it organised on the 25th anniversary of PV Narasimha Rao becoming the Prime Minister in 1991. All the panelists agreed that Narasimha Rao was one of the greatest Prime Ministers of the country and was the man behind the reason for economic reforms.

Addressing the gathering, NV Subhash said that Congress did nothing to honour the great reformist PV Narasimha Rao. In addition, he expressed happiness on PM Modi’s government honouring PV. “The PV memorial will be opened on June 28, on his 95th birth anniversary and I believe that PV may be honored with Bharat Ratna next year,” he said.

Recounting his grandfather’s death, Subhash said, “At the time of his death, Sonia Gandhi did not want to conduct his cremation or a memorial in Delhi due to the fear that PV would be remembered forever for his reforms.”

Former Director of CBI, K Vijayarama Rao said that PV was not involved in the JMM Cash Scam in the purchase of MP’s in Ayodhya matter. He also said that two persons from Andhra Pradesh paid the money to JMM. He said that he knows who paid that money but he refused to reveal it.

“I can emphatically say that PV was not involved in the case,” he clarified.

Later, Sanjaya Baru informed about his upcoming book on PV Narasimha Rao titled ‘1991-The Year That Changed India’, which is releasing next month.
