Kakani made it clear that he would not resign from the party as he has been a member since its inception A Nellore: Groupism and factional rivalries has reached the zenith in the district unit of the YSR Congress Party with the former Zilla Parishad Chairman K Goverdhan Reddy, convener of the party, submitting his resignation. Speaking to the media at his residence here on Monday, Reddy said he resigned as he was not in a position to devote full time for the party. However, he made it clear that he would not resign from the party as he has been a member since its inception. The resignation of Kakani Govardhan Reddy has sent shock waves in the party. It has been reported that he was not on good terms with the Mekapati brothers in the district. Rumours were doing rounds for the past few days that the party leadership had decided to replace Kakani with Meriga Murali who belongs to the Mekapati group. Kakani wanted to save himself of being replaced and hence decided to put in his papers much earlier. Although he requested his party leadership to relieve him from the responsibilities as convener as he had already been appointed as coordinator of the Sarvepalli Assembly constituency and an observer of the Bapatla Parliamentary constituency, the real motive to resign was his open rift with the Mekapati brothers, who were controlling the party in the district. The YSRCP cadres were worried over the likely fall out of their factional feud on the outcome of the 2014 elections.
