Nellore: The district is witnessing a series of rallies, dharnas and relay fasts for the past 21 days. The people belonging to all walks of life irrespective of caste, creed and religion are taking part in the protests voluntarily. The traffic on NH 5 came to a standstill from Itchapuram to Tada mandal when the protestors squatted on the road.
The leaders, who witnessed the intensity of the agitation, are joining the protest fearing if they won’t support the protesting people they will face the public wrath. Rasta roko was organised under the aegis of Sullurpet Joint Action Committee here on Tuesday. Earlier, a rally was taken out from the bus stand in which employees, leaders, students and people took part. Later, they joined the road blockade progamme on the national highway. Traffic bound towards Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh came to a grind halt. Notably, women and students played kabbadi on the road as a mark of protest.
The police on learning about rasta roko rushed to the spot and beefed up security to avoid any untoward incident.
Nellore Rural MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy heaped praises on the people and students for taking part in the agitation in support of Samaikyandhra. He paid a visit to the fasting camp of Vikram Simhapuri University employees and students. Their fast entered the sixth day on Tuesday. He alleged that some leaders for selfish ends are demanding the bifurcation of the State.
JAC honorary president Prof. M Srinivasulu Reddy, VSU JAC leader convenor Dr K Venugopal Reddy, general secretary Dr G Sujay Kumar, said that the Centre should rethink on the division of the State as the future of employees, workers, farmers and students would be bleak if the State is bifurcated.
The AP Cable Operators Association expressed its solidarity with the ongoing agitation. They took out a massive rally and raised slogans in support of Samaikyandhra here on Tuesday. Anam Jayakumar Reddy, the younger brother of Anam Vivekananda Reddy and Anam Ramanrayana Reddy, lashed out at his brothers for not joining the movement. The people will teach a lesson to them if they don’t take part in the ongoing stir, he warned. He along with others took out a massive bike rally.
The government offices wore a deserted look as the employees belonging to various departments joined the stir. Adding insult to injury, the officials of civil supplies department and ration shop dealers too joined the stir.
Venkatagiri: The fast of local MLA K Ramakrishna entered the second day on Tuesday. The government employees, sarpanches, leaders and workers belonging to all the parties and students expressed their solidarity with the fasting MLA.
TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy speaking on the occasion, he said that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has decided to divide the State to make her son Rahul Ganhdi as Prime Minister. He warned the Congress of serious consequences if it goes ahead with the bifurcation.
